Amazon plans to deliver via drones in new “Amazon Prime Air” service
Amazon, the huge global online shopping website is planing a new venture to speed up their delivery times even further; by having them delivered by remote drones. “Amazon Prime Air” is an ambitious idea cooked up buy their R&D research facility to use octocopters drones to carry customers packages directly to their door.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos surprised viewers of the 60 Minute show in the USA by showing off a brief videoclip of the service in action and he believes that it could become a reality in the next 4-5 years.
It looks like science fiction, but it’s real. From a technology point of view, we’ll be ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is actively working on rules for unmanned aerial vehicles.
