Which Android mobile phones will support Flash?
Having Adobe Flash support on smartphones is one of the most requested features to date and for Android supporters many expected it to come with the new 2.0/2.1 update. It seems though things are not quite cut and dry, as an Adobe employee states:
No, the HTC Hero will not be supported b/c it does not have the correct Android OS version and its chipset is not powerful enough. We require a device with an ARM v7 (Cortex) processor. Examples include the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and TI OMAP3 series.
The key point here is the ARM7 Cortex requirement as while the first generation of Android Handsets such as the Magic and Hero will get the 2.0 firmware officially (bad luck for G1 owners), they don’t have the raw processing power to handle Flash media at an acceptable level. This then leaves the second generation of handsets, especially those running the SnapDragon CPU perfectly viable to handle Flash websites.
I’m pretty sure though that the active community that exists with the Android Platform might still try to port and optimise Flash as much as possible to be added to their custom ROMs but at least officially, those owning a HTC G1, Magic and Hero will be out of luck.
