Twelve years ago the village was saved from an evil demon called “Kiyuubi no Youko”, a nine tailed fox demon, that attacked the village and savaged lives. The fourth Hokage sacrificed his life to seal the Kiyuubi into another child’s body to save the village. That child was Uzumaki Naruto, an ordinary twelve year old attending Ninja school while causing havoc. Often found playing pranks and vandalising important statues of the Hokage (the elite ninja’s of their era) he would do anything to gain attention. Having lost both of his parents in an incident he is regularly found playing alone, often looking from afar at his classmates together with their parents and friends.

The animé Naruto right now is airing over in the USA and should arrive in the UK anytime soon and for good reason. Many people have compared this series to DragonBall Z but to me this animé is far better. Yes the formula might seem familiar… People fighting to become stronger, usual bad-guys spoiling the day, however the characters are much more developed than in DBZ.

Everyone in the animé has hardships and the relationships between the characters illustrate that as they try to find a solution together or alone. Not only that, the main characters all have different goals to achieve in life with Naruto wanting to become the Hokage of Konoha, Sasuke wanting to defeat someone at all costs and Sakura just wanting Sasuke’s attention.

For all action junkies though that like a bit of comedy, romance and great fight scenes along with a superbly composed musical score, you should not miss out on this animé. It has been running for a number of years now and continues to go from strength to strength staying true to the manga much more than other animés. Be sure to catch the wave!

  • Well choreographed fight scenes and special moves
  • Compelling musical score
  • Better than average Shonen characters
  • Character development happens at a good rate
  • Stays rather true to the animé original with few filler episodes

  • Might turn people off when it gets compared to Dragon Ball Z
  • Might be slow to start off on as the characters get introduced and personas established.
  • USA Dub edited the music (for the worse) and many amateur edits

Score – 08/10

if your reviewing the jap anime i would give it a 9/8 out of 10

if your reviewing the american dub i would give it a 6/7 out of 10

if your reviewing the jetix dub (UK version) i would give it a 2/3 out of 10…. the jetix version is basicly the one piece dub gone worse >.
